Om Namo Narayanaya

Yoga implies balance ; it enables one to establish harmony between the body, mind and the soul. It is a way of ensuring physical, mental and spiritual fitness.

There is infinite capacity lying within the human body. The science of discovering this, and awakening it, has been termed as "Yoga Darshan" by sages. Through yogic practices (yoga sadhana), it is possible to achieve unimaginable progress of one's spiritual energies. In the "Yoga Sutras of Patanjali" it is stated that through Yoga, the activity of the mind can be ceased. Similarly, in the ancient scripture, the Shrimad Bhgavad Gita, Lord Krshna says - "Dear Arjuna ! By becoming steadfast in yoga, renounce all desires and perform your prescribed duty. Be equal in success and failure." This state of equanimity is Yoga and is possible only by having developed full control over the mind.

The Bhagavad Gita describes three main kinds of Yoga - Bhakti Yoga, Gyana Yoga and Karma Yoga. Bhakti Yoga is the path of devotion, Gyana Yoga is the path of divine knowledge and Karma Yoga is the path of selfless action. All these paths of Yoga though may seem different in their approach, in essence lead to the same goal - of achieving unification with the Supreme Lord.

International Day of Yoga is a celebration of that blissful and divine union which imparts eternal peace and perennial joy. The proclamation of this Day on the occasion of the June 21st Solstice signifies the Highest Level of Consciousness - the Supreme State of Being.

I am indeed delighted to be a part of this noble initiative, which aims at transcending geographical, cultural and social barriers to bring together the best practitioners of Yoga science on a single platform of the ultimate spiritual welfare of humanity.

God bless to all of you.
